DATING A CULTIST (in this case a Mormon) IS NOTHING BUT
TROUBLE!
by Eric Barger

From an email received at www.ericbarger.com

Eric - Marji and I just discovered that our niece Sheri, who has been in a serious relationship with a very nice Mormon young man, has decided to be baptized into the LDS. We have discussed with her our concerns, and she has chosen to reject them. Now she has invited us to her baptism and has expressed how important it is to her that we attend. We feel very strongly about the deception of Mormonism, and do not feel it would be appropriate to attend.

In any case, I guess I am asking if you have any resources I might point her to, or any words of wisdom. I am hoping to have a last conversation with her prior to the baptism, although I hold little hope of its effectiveness. We are grasping at straws a bit, Marji especially has always been very close to Sheri, and this is very devastating for her. I don't know if it might even be possible or appropriate for you to find the time to e-mail Sheri and share with her.

In any case, let me know if there is anything you might suggest. To me this is a life or death issue. A public profession of commitment to the Mormon "church" has nothing but hell at its end. Sheri's e-mail (she is a student at the University of Missouri/Columbia) is: xxxxxxxxxxxxx@hotmail.com

Thanks, brother. Hope this finds you all well! We are praying.

Pastor Allen, York, PA

Allen,

You have every right to be troubled. I love the Mormon people. They are sincere, dedicated and zealous - but no matter how much we may like them and no matter how much we may WISH Mormonism to be "OK" it is not and will never be a path to the Heaven which God Almighty reveals in the Bible.

Being baptized into Mormonism is not like changing from the Baptist church to the Presbyterians. Mormonism is NOT just another denomination, as they now try and portray themselves in recent days. This is just their current spin doctoring at work, attempting to entice the unaware. The truth is that for decades Mormonism refused the title of "Christian" holding to what Joseph Smith taught - that all Christians were deceived, all other churches were wrong and all Christian ministers were "hirelings of Satan." But beyond Smith's preaching and even beyond the hundreds of times that the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covenants fail to harmonize with the Bible, perhaps the most serious heresy is the Mormon version of Jesus.

Mormonism's Largest Deception - Throughout Mormon doctrine the theme of their Church being the "only" answer rings out. It is never Jesus alone being savior, but the Church and to some extent, their version of Jesus. Salvation in Mormonism isn't about surrender to Christ. It is about becoming a member of the Church and then following their many ordinances. In Christianity salvation is COMPLETELY about surrender to Christ and NOT about the acts or works of mankind.

Besides the error of HOW a person is "saved," to me the core issue is by "WHOM" we are saved - the authentic, biblical Jesus or the counterfeit Mormon Jesus? There is NO doubt they are NOT the same.

As you know, right from the teachings of Joseph Smith on down, the Mormon Jesus is NOT the Christian Jesus. Most Mormons would vehemently disagree with this statement but ironically Gordon B. Hinckley, the current prophet of the Mormon Church, does not.

"In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints ‘do not believe in the traditional Christ.’ (He said) ‘No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fulness (sic) of Times...In this dispensation, the Lord has declared that this Church is "the only true and living Church upon the face of the whole earth.’"

(LDS Church News Archives, Saturday, June 20, 1998, reporting on Hinckley’s speech to 6,600 missionaries assembled in Paris. http://www.desnews.com/cgi-bin/libstory_church?dn98&9806210091)

I believe this is perhaps the most compelling and most damning element of Mormonism's many errors. One can sincerely worship a "Jesus" until one is blue in the face but if that Jesus isn't the REAL Jesus the worshiper is lost for all eternity!

No other religious group in history so perfectly fits St. Paul's admonition to the Corinthians in II Cor. 11 which warns of a different Jesus, a different Gospel brought by a different Spirit. I have never spoken to a Mormon who has ever studied that passage but believe me, anyone who cares about Mormons will study and do everything possible to deter them.

Some may say it is unloving that we so stridently speak of Mormonism but in fact it is ultimate love to warn those who are following a deceptive and tragic path.

I am forwarding to you a copy of my presentation "Will The Real Jesus Please Stand Up?". There are many quotes and facts on Mormonism's Jesus there. Among them is a comparison slide of the Mormon Jesus and the Christian Jesus. It is very telling.

There are also many good, documented resources on our web site that expose the demonic nature, doctrines and deceptions of Mormonism.

I pray that Sheri will reconsider and examine Mormonism in the light of Scripture and will reconsider making this mistake. Joseph Smith was a false prophet at best and more likely a complete liar. Millions have followed his folly to an eternity separated from God in Hell. I hope she doesn't become Mormonism's next victim.

Sadly, these are often the results when one gets romantically involved with an unbeliever, in this case a Mormon. Our judgment becomes clouded and we are left open to be deceived. I know I am preaching to the choir on this but perhaps you might use some of what I have said in approaching her. Better than emailing her, feel free to give her my cell number. If she will speak with me I'd be glad to try and talk to her personally. It is 214-289-xxxx.

We will be praying for Sheri. Please keep me informed

- Eric
